What’s Better? Taking Omega-3 Supplements or Eating Fish?

by admin on May 23, 2008

The debate has been underway for quite awhile.

Do supplements such as Omega-3 capsules and other products deliver the same nutritional benefits as eating lots of fish?

New light on the topic comes from research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Researchers compared the results of a controlled diet given to two groups of women between the ages of 21 and 49. One group ate lots of fish, primarily tuna and salmon.

The other group was given Omega-3 capsules to provide the same amount of fatty acids as found in the fish.

The results: after four months omega-3 blood levels were up 40% in both groups. There was no difference in the results between the women were took the capsules and the women who ate the fish.
